Thread: Mozilla releases mobile browser
Mozilla, the guys behind Firefox, have released an early version of their much-talked-about upcoming mobile browser. Apparently it runs on "Maemo", an operating system avaible on the Nokia N800 and N810.
It also looks like there's an...

Windows mobile users -- what are the best apps you've found so far?
The two that have impressed me the most Skyfire and Palringo

Thread: Skyfire launches public beta
Well, 40 hours later, skyfire responded to my support request...
with a canned email telling me that skyfire is a browser, and thanking me "for my support". Ticket closed.
Given that I received this response at midnight pacific, I...

Thread: Skyfire launches public beta
Registered using my wife's phone number, and had her forward the SMS to my phone. That worked.
Biggest improvement I noticed was optional text wrapping, so you can actually read stuff now.
Youtube works better now, too. Seems to...

Thread: Skyfire launches public beta
Looks like the registration process is screwed up if you were already on the waiting list. When I try to register on the download form, it tells me my number is already registered. When I try to log in, it says "This account has not yet...
For kicks, I put my home address in. Interestingly, it looks like each tower only offers 4-5 "bar" coverage within roughly a 5 block radius. I had no idea cell coverage was so short range.

Thread: Do you text more than you talk?
I overwhelmingly use instant messaging, email, and phone calls. I send/receive one or two texts a month, at best. I can't stand paying inflated texting rates.
As far as I know, the curve's hardware isn't capable of recording video at all.

Turns out you can get an idea of the ratio of paid to free downloads.
Open up the iTunes app store. Hit the "All iPhone apps" category. Sort by "Most Popular".
4 apps out of the first 4 pages (21 apps per page) are paid. The other...

Without knowing the ratio of free-to-paid downloads, it's hard to estimate a dollar amount.

Thread: T-Mobile app. store details
Doesn't sound like the greatest deal for developers...
If you put your app in the iPhone app store, or the upcoming Windows Mobile app store, your app becomes available to *every* iPhone or Windows Mobile user. If you put your...

Even if AT&T knowingly sold more plans than their network could handle, and even if their contracts garanteed some basic level of service which has not been met, I don't see how Apple is even remotely responsible.
That's like blaming...

"a feedback and rating system similar to YouTube"
I could never cite YouTube as a positive example of community-based feedback with a straight face.
App distribution is a very good thing, though. Definitely lacking in the current...

Thread: Travel apps
Most folks will probably find Google maps, on any phone with GPS and a decent data plan, is good enough.
And there are versions of Google Maps available for most phone platforms, including iPhone, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile.

Has Apple's NDA proven to be an issue for you?
Thread: How standardized is Bluetooth?
I have no personal experience with this stuff, but some quick research seems to indicate that compatibility is still an issue.
Googling "bluetooth compatibility" turns up a bunch of manufacturer pages; the first hit is a PDF from pioneer...

Lack of a real tethering solution was the #1 reason I picked the Moto q9h over the iPhone. All the iPhone tethering hacks I've seen have just been SOCKS proxies, which is okay for web browsing, but doesn't really cut it for anything more...
