40% say in-flight cell phone use should be allowed?!

Yeah, that's right...apparently 40% of Americans think cell phone use should be allowed on flights:

While Americans age 65 and older are more likely to oppose the use of cell phones on flights, nearly 40% of Americans think they should be allowed, according to a special report from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. About 45% said cell phones definitely or probably should not be used on airplanes, while 15% said they are unsure. ModernAgent.com (08/08) Economist, The (08/07) [from SmartBrief]

I guess I don't know why I think that seems high....

If cell phone use is ever allowed, I'll be buying stock in all companies that manufacture noise-canceling headphones.  It would make flying an even worse experience...which is hard to imagine.

This would be horrible. It's one thing being allowed to use data on a flight, but voice? No way! Veto, veto, veto!

I would be fine with texting, e-mail, or suring the web with it. But I can't imagine how annoying it would be to be hearing other people's conversations.
