Klausner sues Google, Verizon, and others for visual voicemail

News by Ricky Cadden on Wednesday August 27, 2008.

Klausner Technologies, Inc., headed up by Judah Klausner, has filed suit against Google, Verizon, and a handful of other communications companies, claiming infringement on his visual voicemail patents. Klausner holds patents on a voicemail system capable of "applying a graphical way of interacting with voicemail messages that allow it to be used like email."

Verizon, who anticipated the lawsuit based on Klausner's previous cases, filed a lawsuit two weeks ago, seeking to have Klausner's patent declared invalid. [via: Reuters]

I'm certainly no expert in IP, but I took a few seminars on the topic and was totally amazed at how broad patents can be. Everytime I've thought about things to complain about on the subject, I can come up with reasons why it's necessary to be that broad, but it still feels like there has to be another way.

That's a brave soul taking on Verizon and Google at the same time...
