Evernote Manager

Evernote allows you to take pictures, upload them to your account and tag them with meta data. Another powerful feature is that it can scan the picture with optical recognition and find letters and words that you can search on throughout your collection.

Take notes and keep them in sync
shultquist reviewed November 29, 2008 at 8:46 am

I take notes on my iPhone. I always have it with me, and it is so much more convenient than carrying a computer everywhere, and propping it open to take notes. There are also places where a computer just isn't appropriate (like church or a community meeting) and the iPhone is very convenient for this.

With Evernote, I take notes on the iPhone and then sync them with the web and my Mac, allowing me to reference any notes from anywhere. It also allows me to search notes, including photos and the textual content of the photos. So, for example, I can take a shot of a whiteboard with my iPhone and later search on the text of that photo.

Definitely a great note-taking environment.

Evernote - Has Potential
Banzai reviewed July 30, 2008 at 4:35 pm

Evernote has the potential to be a remarkably powerful utility.

At the core of the program is the ability to take notes of anything everywhere and be able to search and reference them from a single user interface. Not only text notes but pictures you take from your iPhone can be instantly scanned for text it recognizes.

As it applies to the iPhone the best way to explain would be to give an example.

Say you are at work and you have 100 boxes of files, all with the name of the files listed on the outside of the boxes. You have been asked to inventory all the boxes. Up until now you would have to write down the content of the boxes and re type the information into a word processor.

With Evernote the promises is that you would theoretically be able to take a picture of each of the boxes and send them to Evernote that would then run it’s optical recognition process and allow you to pull the text off each box without typing a letter.

Another instance would be taking a persons business card, taking a picture of it with your iPhone and being able to find it by the text contained in the picture.

In the future Evernote claims they will be able to use the recognition software to recognize faces in a crowd so that every picture would speak a thousand words for your Evernote application.

As of right now you can also plug in Evernote into your favorite browser and clip notes right from the web into Evernote while keeping all information including links right into your note system. Also, each jpeg on the web is included in the Evernote optical recognition process so that text inside any jpeg can e searched on.

It’s not up to it’s potential yet but keep an eye on this app. the more eyes they have on the application the more apt it is to evolve.
