reviewed August 18, 2008 at 8:58 am I am an avid ebook reader. I used to take mass transit to work every day with a one-way trip time of over an hour, and reading was critical to passing time and staying sane. The concept of reading books on my phone was very appealing. Years ago I used to read books on my Palm PDA, but when I moved over to Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices I needed to read books on the phone.
There are many sources for free ebooks. Some publishers, such as Tor Books, occasionally release free ebooks in a variety of formats. The Gutenburg Project converts out-of-copyright books to electronic format.
Once one has a book in electronic format such as text or HTML, the document can be imported into the PC-based Mobipocket desktop software to build yor library.
When you connect a smartphone (Palm, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, etc) to Mobipocket, you can upload books to your phone.
I have read countless books on phones and PDAs. Many people don't see the benefit or can't imagine reading a book without flipping paper pages. But I always have my phone with me, which means I always have my books with me.
There a number of ebook reading/conversion programs... iSilo was what I used before Mobi. I prefered iSilo's text scrolling to Mobipocket's, but Mobipocket supports the large variety of phones and platforms I use.
