reviewed August 13, 2008 at 12:15 pm If you're looking for a 3G smartphone on AT&T with a full QWERTY keyboard, your options are pretty limited. This is probably one of the best options, at the moment.
Comes with Opera Mobile, which features tabbed browsing and javascript support.
Hardware's not spectacular -- 128 meg of storage onboard, supports miniSD cards up to 4 gig. Processor isn't terribly powerful; camera is okay, but not great
Syncing to your desktop is slow -- took me 3 hours to transfer 4 gigs of music on to the SD card via the USB data cable. Get about 60k/sec via USB tether and bluetooth.
GPS takes a while to get a lock -- sometimes a couple minutes.
Pretty stable. Only locks up on me once or twice a month, which, as far as I know, is pretty good for a Windows Mobile device.
Comes with two batteries, and two back panels that fit over them -- a slim, low capacity battery, and a high capacity battery. Installing the high capacity battery makes the phone about 50% thicker.
Never tried the slim battery -- battery only lasts a few days at best with the high-capacity battery, but I've got it checking my email every 15 minutes, and I use it a lot on the train, so it's not suprising.
UI is clunky. In many cases, menu items move around, so you can't consistently use the number keys as shortcuts.
This is most pronounced in Opera Mobile, where the "Next window" menu item's shortcut moves from 3 to 5 depending on where the cursor is at the time -- e.g., over a link verus over an image.
No headphone jack. Headphones must be plugged in via a micro-USB dongle. This means that if you want to use this thing as a portable music player, it fits in your pocket a little oddly, since the dongle is sticking out. And when you're not listening to music, you still have to carry the dongle somewhere. Mildly annoying.
Most of my complaints probably apply to most smartphones; the market as a whole has a ways to go. While the Q9h is by no means perfect, you can probably do a lot worse.
