Samsung SCH-u620

Pros: Compact slider form factor, big and bright screen

Cons: A few minor interface quirks

Samsung SCH-U620 Review

April 27, 2007

[note: at time of review I had no MobileTV service available in my area, so the comments only pertain to the form factor and interface]

I'm starting to notice some interface quirks with this unit... for example, I copied a bunch of wallpapers to a MicroSD card (after formatting it in the U620) and went to Display settings to set them. The pics showed fine... I hit set wallpaper, it comes back as check, and I go back to the main display and... no wallpaper. I then copied all the pics to phone memory and it worked fine. Seems like a good candidate for a firmware fix... other phones just copy the select pic to phone memory so the card can come out and the wallpaper will stay. Barring that, display an error or something.

My Ringtones in the GIN menu doesn't pull in tones from the card it seems, but mp3's load fine from the card. In fact I can't get ringers to show up at all, though I seem to recall an issue like this on HoFo and I'll need to research that further.

The music player itself sounds pretty good from the phone.

The screen is pretty nice.

I like the little menu animations and such. But as with the U740 I wish the phone number font size could come down some... what's with the huge "Normal" font size?

But these issues are pretty minor... not a bad unit.

This isn't about downloading a few short programs and videos. This is the mobile broadcast TV you've been waiting for, brought to you by the u620 and V CAST Services. But wait, there's more. V CAST Services also include a great way to enjoy and download your favorite (or soon to be favorite) songs. It's fast, it's convenient and it's very entertaining.
