Difference between unlocking a phone and debranding?

I was under the impression that they were the same, but apparently it's 2 different services? Any clarity would be appreciated.

Unlocking simply means clearing the phone's software setting so that the phone can be used on any network (AT&T, T-mobile, Fido etc...)

Debranding removes those anoying logos (like verizon, at&t, t-mobile ), predefined themes, images, sounds, locked WAP profiles and links. Debranding gives your phone a brand new look plus
frees up its memory (if you care)

*Debranding will only remove the network software from your phone it wont remove the network lock.

Unlocking means that the handset is open up to all networks which means any means it will accept any sim card . Whereas Debranding means removing all previous network brands from the handset.
