Enough beer, how about wine?

It may not be apparent to you (from my avatar) that I drink wine.  My avatar is probably a burgundy given that it's a burgundy glass.

I am a huge California Cabernet Sauvignon fan and about 9 out of 10 wines I drink are just that (a cab in general, not necessarily from california).  I also enjoy ports.

A few of my favorites:

  • Beringer 2001 Napa Valley Cab
  • Artemis 2005 Cab
  • Stag's Leap 2001 Cabs
  • Foris 2005 Cab (Oregon)
  • Taylor Fladgate 40 year Tawny

We have o/enophiles (wine lovers/collectors) in here?

I definitely enjoy wine, but I'm far from a connoisseur.  Cabs are definitely my favorite though.  One that I got introduced to a couple of years ago that I can't get enough of is Salvestrin.  The 2004 is great, but the 2003 is incredible (tough to find now).  It's a bit pricey, but worth it occasionally.

Another winery with consistently great wines is Keller Estate.  No cabs, but their Pinot Noir is wonderful.

I really need to plan another trip up to Napa and/or Sonoma...

A trip to Napa is one I have never made.  I'm planning to plan a trip there early next year.  That's when the plans will be made at least =P.  Hmm...Salvestrin, if their 2003 was good, their 2005 should be excellent depending on their grape selection.  I'll keep my eyes open for it.  I probably won't be able to find it seeing that it's a small outfit.  Ah, their 2005 isn't released yet.  I'll wait for the 2005 and try that one and let you know what I think.

Did you visit Salvestrin and Keller Estate?

I've been to Salvestrin a couple of times and stopped by Keller on my last trip.  You really need to make sure you take the trip sometime, it's incredible...just make sure you have a designated driver.

Not a wine nut, but I love me some White Merlot every now and again.

I have to admit, I'm not very good at trying new grapes or whites.  I have never actually had a White Merlot.  I'll keep my eyes out for that next time I sit down with a wine list.

I'm with Teej.  I enjoy a good glass of wine but I don't really know the finer points (despite my dad trying to teach me the lingo).  Trentadue is a really pretty winery in Alexander Valley and they make some great wines.  I also recently had a glass of something from Brown Estate.  I'm trying to remember what my friend told me about them....I think maybe they don't actually produce a ton of wine (in terms of quantity) but whatever red we had was really fantastic.
