iPhone Nano for Holidays?

Rumors of course, but...

Apple to launch the iPhone 'nano' in time for Christmas

I doubt browsing would be very useful, but perhaps this would be a good compromise device for those who want their phone to be the same device as their music player but don't need browsing capabilities and data plan costs.

I will be really shocked if they do this, but you never know.  They just get so much benefit from a single, unified platform (screen resolution, processor, touchscreen, etc.).  Apple has eluded to several new product launches in the next 6 months, so this will be interesting to keep an eye on.

Does anyone here actually think a smaller, internet-free version of the iPhone would be in demand?  I guess they'd just be trying to compete with tons of other lower-end phones from the major manufacturers.

It would certanly surpass the Samsung Juke, which I have seen people with.  That's a pretty simple swivel phone that is marketed for music.

But an iPhone with a sliding form factor to allow text messaging on some kind of keyboard, plus nano-esque size and iTunes support at a lower price and I think that would be a winner.

Who am I kidding with a prediction, it seems everything with an Apple logo on it is a winner :)

I think that if there truly is an iPhone Nano in the works it will be a huge seller among the younger demographic. Look at it this way; parents don't wanna pay the huge bill that comes along with an iPhone for a 13-16 year old kid. This way, the kids can have their "status symbol" of the iPhone and their parents won't be paying an arm and a leg for service.
